Differential Amplitude Pulse-Position Modulation for Indoor Wireless Optical Communications
نویسندگان
چکیده
We propose a novel differential amplitude pulse-position modulation (DAPPM) for indoor optical wireless communications. DAPPM yields advantages over PPM, DPPM, and DH-PIMα in terms of bandwidth requirements, capacity, and peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). The performance of a DAPPM system with an unequalized receiver is examined over nondispersive and dispersive channels. DAPPM can provide better bandwidth and/or power efficiency than PAM, PPM, DPPM, and DH-PIMα depending on the number of amplitude levels A and the maximum length L of a symbol. We also show that, given the same maximum length, DAPPM has better bandwidth efficiency but requires about 1 dB and 1.5dB more power than PPM and DPPM, respectively, at high bit rates over a dispersive channel. Conversely, DAPPM requires less power than DH-PIM2. When the number of bits per symbol is the same, PAM requires more power, and DH-PIM2 less power, than DAPPM. Finally, it is shown that the performance of DAPPM can be improved with MLSD, chip-rate DFE, and multichip-rate DFE.

متن کاملApplication of Expurgated PPM to Indoor Visible Light Communications - Part I: Single-User Systems
Visible light communications (VLC) in indoor environments suffer from the limited bandwidth of LEDs as well as from the inter-symbol interference (ISI) imposed by multipath. In this work, transmission schemes to improve the performance of indoor optical wireless communication (OWC) systems are introduced. Expurgated pulse-position modulation (EPPM) is proposed for this application since it can ...
متن کاملTunable Pulse Amplitude and Position Modulation Technique for Reliable Optical Wireless Communication Channels
Modulation techniques have attracted increasing attention in optical wireless communications. Basic schemes such as on off keying (OOK), pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) and pulse position modulation (PPM) have been validated as suitable for the optical wireless channel. This paper starts from the analysis of these three modulation schemes in terms of their power and bandwidth requirements. As ...

For an indoor non-directed line of sight optical wireless communication (NLOS-OWC) system we investigate the optimized Lambertian order (OLO) of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). We firstly derive an expression for the OLO from a conventional Lambertian LED model. Then, we analyze the indoor multi-cell NLOS-OWC channel characteristics including the optical power distribution and the multipath time ...
